Tourism in Alsace France
Alsace is a mosaic of picturesque villages, a handful of modern cities, stretches of farmland, and, of course, vineyards - acres and acres of vines, producing some of France's most distinctive white wines. The small villages of Alsace are filled with half-timbered buildings, traditional restaurants and charming shops. The scenic Alsace Wine Route stretches for about 100 miles at the foot of the Vosges mountains, from Wissembourg in the north, to Thann in the south. Along the way, visitors can follow paths among the vineyards, and taste the many styles of Alsace wines in the region's "winstubs" and tasting cellars. Alsace is also host to numerous wine festivals, particularly from spring through summer, including the fairs in Ribeauvillé (July) and Colmar (August).
